All of us want to stay well by eating the right foods, getting enough exercise, and enjoying life. An easy way to do this is by using our mobile phone and wearable, such as Apple Watch and Fitbit, to keep track of how many calories we have consumed and burned, how many steps we have taken and distance travelled, how well we have slept and of course our heart rate, that can be recorded continuously using an Apple Watch, Fitbit or by using many other devices.
You may be surprised that all you need to keep track of your progress is to use something that is present all the time – your heart beats. Our heart works differently depending on how we are feeling, whether we are asleep or awake, and even when we aren’t feeling as well as usual.
Every day a measure is obtained from your heart rate data that might indicate how you have managed that day. Changes in the measure over days, weeks and months may show the effect of events and circumstances that influence your lifestyle and health. For example, if the measure increases things are looking better. However, if the measure decreases consistently, this might suggest that some health intervention might be needed – a better diet, more exercise, or even consulting your medical advisor.
The technology used in this Automated Lifestyle And Relapse Monitoring (ALARM) system has not been medically certified, so the results should only be used as an approximate indication of how things might be going for you. You will need to seek medical advice is you suspect that your wellness has lapsed based on information provided by the ALARM system.
